Healthy Meal suggestions for Cracker Barrel

We stopped in here on our way from Chicago to Houston, the waitress was very sweet and gave it 100%. We were a party of 6 and fortunately it was a little later in the evening so they were not too crowded. There was a little difficulty in getting all our meals to us on time but when we did get them the food was terrific. Once we returned home, roughly 14 hours later, we realized that one of the gals in our group was missing her purse. After searching frantically through all our luggage, we called the Cracker Barrel to see if it was left there. It was, and they informed us that they would send it the next day free of charge. That was on a Sunday, it came on Wednesday. The Cracker Barrel went well beyond their duty and we appreciate their commitment to the customers. I can guarantee that if we are anywhere close to Mount Vernon again, we are going to be sure to stop in and enjoy another meal. Thanks so much for your honesty and putting the customer first!

Quick dinner while staying in a hotel near by. Staff was awesome. Had our food out in a timely manner. New waitress had trouble with the party of nine next to us, but other staff members jumped in and rescued her. Over all it was a better than usual experience at Cracker Barrel.

Cracker Barrel is usually a good spot to stop and grab something to eat while traveling but I had a poor experience at this location. The hostess was very rude and wouldn't respond when greeted to. She sat my girlfriend and I at a table that wasn't even cleaned. We decided two strikes was more than enough and left. I have a very low tolerance for rude staff especially when traveling. I recommend passing on this location.

I usually don't give 1 star ratings unless I find a really strong urge to. While this review has nothing to do with the service I received at this place, this will only reflect on the food I got. Ordered fried catfish. Got raw catfish. If it wasn't for the fried batter on the outside, there was no way I would even touch the fish. It was like sushi raw. The pinkish raw flesh just got me downright sick. Hopefully I was the only ONE who ordered the special of the day. Getting fried raw fish is inexcusable. This is without a doubt the worst dining experience I've ever. It sickens me to my core even when I think about it now. Wow. I'm not coming back here again unless they offer sushi some day.

I usually don't review chains, but this is the first Cracker Barrel I've been to and I was impressed. The olde tyme store was nice and everything, but they had fire! A real hearth fire going at 7am when my coworker and I showed up for breakfast. Anyway, on to food. The menu was huge, the price was right, the portions were hearty and the food was good. Like I said, impressive.

This is one of my favorite chain restaurants and I usually try to avoid chains. For those of you who haven't been here half of this place is a store while the other half is a restaurant. I love the comforting atmosphere this place has from the quaint little store to the comfort food to the rocking chairs on the porch. You just feel like you'll be able to relax and enjoy yourself when you're here. I love coming in the winter time and sitting by the fireplace and playing checkers while I'm waiting for my food. They serve a wide variety of classic comfort foods like catfish, meatloaf, macaroni and cheese, fried chicken and mashed potatoes. My favorite by far is the chicken and dumplings. It's nothing you'll find at a Michelin star restaurant, but it's very simple and delicious and that's why I love it! The service has been great everytime I've been as well so if you're looking for a chain to eat at, come here!

Love eating here whenever I come to Mt. Vernon. Service is always pretty good, and the food is delicious. Plus it has the little store part of the restaurant with souvenirs and toys for kids. Its family friendly and a great place to get together with people you love.

Had chicken fried chicken, mashed potatoes, corn and breaded okra. The breading was falling off the chicken and it was dry. The mashed potatoes were lumpy and cold. The corn and okra were ok. Won't stop there again!!

This is one of the better places to eat in MV. It usually takes forever to get your food though. But once you get it, you should be satisfied every time. It's a little pricey for MV, but it's worth it.

We stick to Cracker Barrel for breakfast when we're on the road. On a recent trip to Paducah, we stopped at this one in Mt. Vernon. ... and it was great! Service was fine. Food was served quickly and hot. Coffee was kept full and piping hot. When at Cracker B. I'm a fan of Uncle Herschel's Favorite. I pretend that he's my uncle. Uncle Hersch. Love him and his breakfast. What I learned recently about Cracker B's is that they will make you regular hash browns. You know, in lieu of that horrid casserole they slap on every plate. It's a no-charge substitution and it works at every CB I've been to. Growing up in Southern Indiana, my mom always put a touch of sugar in her milk gravy. So, if you're at a Cracker B and you see a fatty sprinkling a bit of sugar into her gravy while her beefcake husband shakes his head - stop by and say hello to us!

My friends and I were driving from Carbondale back home to Chicago. When we saw the Cracker Barrel sign, we were overwhelmed by hunger - a hunger for food and kitsch. Cracker Barrel has both. I got the chicken and dumplings and it was enough to feed a small army. The price is insanely cheap for the amount of food you get. And it's all good. After our meal, we all sat on the rocking chairs out front, simply digesting and wishing we had a chunk of wood to whittle.

Stopped in for a break from driving and something to eat on our way home from vacation. This Cracker Barrel is typical of most. Friendly staff and good food. We weren't by any means in a hurry, but it was nice that the food came quickly and we were able to get back on the road.

So, I have to admit to eating at Cracker Barrel twice during a Midwestern visit to see my parents. The first time, at a new store near O'Fallon was absolutely excellent, fatty goodness, as I've come to expect from this chain. The location in Mt. Vernon however has gone downhill. My order was mixed up, and my favorite...corn muffins and chicken-n-dumplins' were not nearly as good as usual. Service was slow and a bit scattered. My parents also complain about a marked change in service. I doubt Cracker Barrel reads Yelp, but here it is for posterity.

Ended up having breakfast for dinner. My husband and I shared the Big Boy Breakfast which is plenty of food for two. We then shared the cherry cobbler with a scoop of ice cream. Both were delicious especially the cobbler. Our service was quick, friendly, and attentive.

Good cheap food, love the country fried steak and eggs, love the hashbrown casserole that comes along with it too. Great country feel.
